Cheddar is hosting a festival of all things outdoors this autumn. Building on the huge success of the inaugural South West Outdoor Festival held last year in Devon, the National Trust is working with partners and outdoor experts to prepare for the 2017 event which will take place in and around Cheddar Gorge over the weekend of September 8 – 10.
The festival is open to local residents, day visitors and campers, with a small entry charge covering all entertainment and some activities. The idea behind this celebration of all things wild and adventurous is for people to try new outdoor sports or experience favourite pursuits in new and challenging settings.
Last year’s event introduced festival goers to hiking, biking, paddling, axe throwing, star gazing, endurance running and much more, with plenty of food for the brain as well in the form of music and motivational speakers. There was relaxation too around the camp sites.
If you would like to attend or spread the word to friends and families who live further away check the event website for more details as it will be updated nearer to the festival weekend. If you would like to volunteer to help there are plenty of opportunities and rewards so do contact the organisers.
The festival is run by the National Trust in conjunction with Cotswold Outdoor and the Mendip Hills AONB, with support from Somerset Wildlife Trust and Longleat. You can learn more here: https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/days-out/regionsouthwest/south-west-outdoor-festival
